Celebrating the life of

Grace Poon

Grace Sara Poon, 33, passed away on March 5th, 2024 after her battle with pancreatic cancer, which was diagnosed in December 2023. Her family and friends are profoundly saddened by the loss of such an amazing friend, wife and mother. She leaves behind her beautiful daughter Mabel Bredehoeft, adoring husband Tony Bredehoeft, along with her siblings Jessica Poon and Victor Poon, and parents Alan Poon and Rebecca Poon.

Like all truly special souls, Grace is not easily summarized. She was funny, caring, compassionate and silly – she made those closest to her feel fully embraced for who they are. She loved to spend her days exploring San Mateo with her husband and dog, Randall, who Grace referred to as her “first born”. She was a devoted and caring mother to her daughter Mabel in the short time that she was able to be. She could find fun in nearly every situation, including practicing her accents in the kitchen or coming up with another nickname for her husband. She loved a friend she could be in cahoots with, even if the caper was as simple as sneaking into a local private pool.

Grace was born on March 31st, 1990 in Harbor City, CA. She graduated from the University of Oregon in 2012, where she studied Social Work. Soon after she discovered a love of teaching, and completed a Master’s Degree in Teaching in 2015 at the University of San Francisco. After initially starting as an elementary school teacher in San Francisco, she soon found a home as a kindergarten teacher at Lead Elementary School in San Mateo, where she remained until her passing. Grace’s kindness and empathy made her perfectly suited to the role, and she loved seeing her kids learn and develop. She especially loved having prior students come to visit her classroom, so she could see if they had grown taller than her.

Grace will be forever missed by her family and friends, and countless others who loved her deeply. She will be remembered for her love of the simple things in life and the smiles she brought out in so many people.

We love you Grace.
